4th grade painted value cubes. First students drew their cube using 3 rhombus shapes. Then we discussed the term value and how to create a tint using white and a shade using black. They were also introduced to complementary colors which are opposite on the color wheel. Based on all this information, students then chose a color for their cube and mixed paint to create a tint and a shade.
Students then used their cubes complementary color to paint a background, again showing value using tints and shades. They finished their project by outlining the edges with a black oil pastel.
